Maria Simmons

Fermentation of Ideas

The COVERT Collective is pleased to be participating in Femme Folks Fest 2022. Maria Simmons is an eclectic, multi-disciplinary artist whose work often focusses on the very essence of life. We hope you enjoy curated. Co-Editor Bart Gazzola’s interview with her that he recently conducted in her Hamilton studio.

“There’s no specific medium that I see myself working in… I kind of think of it more as I make art that eats itself.” Bart Gazzola interviews artist Maria Simmons in her studio in Steeltown (as ‘Art is the new steel’ is a catchphrase of the city’s Supercrawl), discussing topics as diverse as the worst meal she ever made, to the curious relationship many artists have with aspic.
